Low Calorie Morning Drinks

Hey everyone! Okay if you’re anything like me, I need a coffee or some type of morning drink ASAP when I wake up. Sometimes that means driving through my favorite coffee shop, but most of the time it just means that I want to make something yummy at home!

I wanted to share a few calorie-conscious ideas for morning coffees/drinks: Hot Coconut Horchata Matcha, an Iced Caramel Latte, and a fun twist on regular morning coffee! The directions for all of these are basically the same…just grab all of the ingredients, combine and stir well.

Hot Matcha – Coconut Horchata

  • ¾ c. hot coconut milk
  • ¾ c. rice milk
  • 1 tbsp matcha latte
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Iced Caramel Latte
  • 2 tbsp caramel syrup
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp espresso instant coffee
  • ½ c. milk
  • 2 c. cold water
  • Ice

Easy Morning Coffee–Hot or Iced!

  • Frother (this one on Amazon is perfect!)
  • Any size black coffee (you can brew it yourself with a coffee machine or grab a bottle of cold brew from the grocery store!)
  • A “protein shake” creamer – either your own protein powder mixed with almond milk, or you can buy a pre-bottled shake like Premier Protein–these can usually be found in the “diet/supplement” aisle in the grocery store.

On the days when I’m out the door quick and plan on stopping somewhere, I usually stop at Black Rock Coffee Co.! It’s my favorite. I usually get a matcha tea latte with almond milk and I add two packets of sweetener. On my “treat days” I go for a blended Caramel Blondie with no whip!

Sometimes I also stop by juice bars too, and my go-to juice bar order is some sort of celery juice with lemon squeezed in. Yum 😍

What’s your favorite morning drink? When you’re going through a fitness and nutrition program, morning coffee can be one of those tough areas because we don’t realize how many calories are really in our coffees. But because I’m such a firm believer in lifestyle changes over diets (peep my last blog post for that topic!), I think it’s better to allow ourselves to still enjoy our morning drinks, by either making simple modifications OR by finding new favorites that make us want to jump out of bed in the morning! 🙌🏻
